FINE CONSERVATION

Fine Conservation of Architectural Works of Art and Historic Building Repair are synonymous in all but scale. St Blaise has contributed importantly to building conservation by applying those rarified techniques in the preserve of Conservation Studios, to buildings as a whole, on a massive scale

St Blaise has made the Conservators’ work of today the Stock of Trade of Historic Building Repair. We first applied the lime method on a large scale at Brunel’s Bristol Temple Meads Station saving a third of the stone replacement cost, and subsequently at Highcliife Castle. We have broken new ground in Plaster Conservation and many of the methods specified today were developed by St Blaise Powis Castle Prior Park

We have a well equipped ”Museum Standard” Conservation Workshop in Dorset, insured and secured, where we conserve portable artifacts, statuary and paintings on canvas JohnWillis Painting & Coat of Arms Uppark Sconces

St Blaise prefers to conserve in situ whenever possible and only dismantles “in extremis”

St Blaise has conserved most materials, in isolation or together; timber, ceramics, polychromy on most substrates, wall paintings, plasters, stuccos and renders, ferrous and non-ferrous metals, and, of course, stone

Our philosophy has always been to create an environment where the conservator and tradesman work alongside one another, sharing their skills and thoughts

We are members of ICON and we are always innovative when that is what is wanted
