BRICKWORK, STRUCTURAL & WETWORKS

Brickwork & Masonry

Brickwork and masonry are core trades. We repair all masonry fabric, rubble stone, flint, chert or brick.

Some say that brick conservation is best done by a stone conservator but the best work comes from the trade trained bricklayer working alongside the conservator. St Blaise has both. We are acutely aware of the dignity of our imperial brickwork, and how impossible it is to build beautifully in a metric brick

We are experienced in commissioning the making of new brick to match the ancient and mostly our repairs are “seamless”

We do build new brickwork on occasion The Pavilion, Eythrope and we are experienced in rubbed and gauged work

Structural Works

From the earliest days at Corfe Castle to major works more recently at Rochester Castle & Corner Farm, we have always been involved in heavy duty, mainstream, structural repair

St Blaise is an approved installer of Cintec Harke Structural Anchors and is familiar with other patent stitching, tying and anchoring systems, especially those that secure with a degree of flexibility

We are diamond drillers, Haslingfield, Cherhill Monument, pressure and gravity grouters, White Heart coffer dam builders, civil engineers, Midford Viaduct, pile drivers and underpinners. We have repaired watermills, canal locks Lydney Harbour and harbours. We have tied buildings together with hydraulically tensioned high tensile steel Fota House and we have held buildings apart. We have moved buildings. We do all this as trained building conservators

Wetworks

The experienced all round wetworker is arguably the most useful and undervalued craftsman on a Historic Building Repair site. He is capable of any number of the common repair tasks; minor plaster repairs, patch pointing, the odd brick or stone replacement, rebuilding on a small scale, minor structural works, grouting et al. St Blaise is proud of its wetworkers, their length of time with the firm, their finely attuned sense of aesthetics, how they “listen to the building speak” and their ability to build by “the yardstick of the eye” free from the constraints of the straightedge, plumb bob or square
