Torre Abbey, Torquay
Description
An extensive restoration of Torquay’s oldest building, ancient Abbey Vaults and more recent buildings was required to make the spaces useable for local authority office and Museum use.
The works involved:
- External removal of cementitious and lime plaster and render.
- New lime plaster/render throughout revealing original features.
- The rebuilding of masonry parapets.
- Internal joinery to oak doors.
- New fire doors and seals.
- Replacement and conservation repairs to historic lime plasters.
- Extensive external render repairs, including the development of matching mortars.
- The structural restoration and repair of masonry parapets.
- Extensive external and internal masonry repairs.
- Conservation of joinery.
- New lead light window and restoration of existing.
- Manufacture and supply of new iron casements.
- New fire doors and seals.
