Pencarrow House, Cornwall
Description
Repair, renewal and conservation of the Roman Cement Stucco and run in situ work. This initial consultancy in Cornwall to examine and advise on the condition of the external stucco turned into a negotiated contract to implement our recommendations.
The works involved:
- A good symbiosis between the plasterers and the conservators allowed the maximum amount of original fabric to be saved.
- Though the original surface finish had long since disappeared, the client and professional team were strongly advised to paint the new and conserved work in a casein bound limewash to both protect and economically conserve minor defects in the retained original.
- Minor repairs to the fenestration were taken in with the major works.
- The new limewash was well received (after the initial shock…!)
